In the last few months of 2023 I was asked by my friend Jay Kuehner if I could design a poster for a film series he was co-curating at Mini Mart City Park, a gallery space (and pocket park) in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.

Knowing there were at least six events in the series, all highlighting a range of films and their accompanying visuals, I created a templated poster we could update easily for each distinct program.

Poster details

The On Site logotype sits atop a clear division of color and content below an interesting film still, the color scheme of the poster inspired by the image, typically.

Taking a cue from their design brief and their thoughtful direction, I included an overhead view of the Duwamish river valley as a graphical element literally weaving through the poster, an homage to the landscape where the gallery sits, as well as an acknowledgement to the environmental work the building itself is doing to remove historic fuel contaminants from the soil.

The film series is now in its third year, with program promotions still being discussed.

On Site film series

On Site is an independent film series that explores themes such as land, belonging, history, industry, and environment. Each month, curators David Dinnell, Ellen Ito, and Jay Kuehner host a screening followed by a facilitated discussion between artists, community members, and local organizations.

What began as a mere informational graphic became, in the hands and eyes of designer Gary Bedell, an entire program identity based around a series of posters for print and web.
