Great Love Sound
Art, music, cultureβ¦for a cause.
In the summer of 2021 I created an online arts and culture magazine to raise funds for that year's Movember campaign. The world was still half-locked down, it was our second COVID summer, and in the long evenings I got to dreaming and scheming, as you do.
A staff of one, calling up friends who made cool stuff, sharing their art with the world, and all to benefit a great cause. Concept to launch in a few months, working evenings after my consulting job.
Seven features in total:
A miniature house builder constructing a four-story Victorian mansion at 1:12 scale
A UK collage artist with commissions from Elle and Cosmopolitan
A Seattle power trio emerging from isolation and recording some new songs they share
A pinhole photographer developing film in his bathtub, and more.
Six contributors shared their work. All of it in service of a simple idea: subscribe for $25 or more, get access to the full issue, and every dollar goes directly to the Movember Foundation β supporting men's mental health, suicide prevention, and cancer research.
In four weeks, 31 people signed up and $1,735 went to Movember.
Not bad for a nights-and-weekends operation.
